How to Download YouTube Thumbnails on iPhone
A quick walkthrough for saving a YouTube video or Shorts thumbnail to your iPhone's Photos app.
iOS doesn't give you a simple "save thumbnail" option inside the YouTube app, but you can get a full-resolution copy in a few taps using Safari and any browser-based thumbnail downloader.
1. Copy the video link
Open the video (or Short) in the YouTube app, tap Share, then Copy Link. This copies the full youtube.com or youtu.be URL to your clipboard.
2. Open the downloader in Safari
Switch to Safari and open ThumbnailGrab. Tap the URL field and use Paste — or the on-page paste button — to drop in the link, then tap Get Thumbnails.
3. Save the image
Tap Download on the resolution you want. iOS Safari downloads the JPG into the Files app by default; from there you can tap the file and use the share sheet to save it into Photos if you'd like it in your camera roll instead.
If you'd rather skip the extra step, press and hold the thumbnail preview image itself and choose "Add to Photos" or "Save Image" directly from the share sheet.
Troubleshooting
If a download seems to do nothing, check Settings → Safari → Downloads to confirm where iOS is saving files — some configurations point to iCloud Drive instead of On My iPhone.
