About ThumbnailGrab

ThumbnailGrab is a set of small, focused tools for working with YouTube thumbnail images: looking up which resolutions exist for a video, downloading them, resizing them, and doing all three in bulk. Nothing more — no account system, no video downloading, no unrelated features bolted on.

It exists because finding and downloading a specific YouTube thumbnail in the size you actually need is more fiddly than it should be, especially now that not every resolution exists for every video. The tools here check real availability before showing you anything, rather than assuming every size is there.

How it works

When you paste a YouTube link, the site parses out the video ID entirely in your browser, checks which thumbnail files YouTube’s own image servers actually have for that video, and — when available — looks up the title and channel name through YouTube’s public oEmbed endpoint. Downloads are streamed through a small server route that only ever fetches from YouTube’s official thumbnail CDN using a validated video ID and a fixed list of filenames.
